Short Summary
According to CAA (23 April 11), on April 23, 2011, authorities in Chengde prefecture, Hebei province, stopped Henan-based house church leader and pastor Zhang Mingxuan, Zhang's wife Xie Fenglan, and Beijing-based pastor Liu Fenggang as they reportedly traveled to Beijing to visit churches for Easter. Officials reportedly held Zhang and Xie at a police station in Chengde for several hours before holding them at a hotel in Shijiazhuang city, Hebei. Authorities have reportedly detained Zhang in connection to his unregistered religious activities at least 11 times since 2005, including 5 times since January 2009. According to RFA (14 June 10) and CAA (15 June 10), public security officers detained Zhang and Xie on June 13, 2010, as they traveled to Yancheng prefecture, Jiangsu province, held them in a hotel, questioned Zhang about his plans to visit a church in Yancheng and a Christian in Beijing who had returned from the U.S., and released them on June 15. Sources did not provide information about the release of Zhang, Xie, and Liu following the April 2011 detention, but sources did not provide information to suggest continued detention.
